Gary W. Osbrey

Hi everyone. I’m Gary Osbrey, and I own WINY along with my wife Karen. I have been in radio since joining my high school radio station- WCVY, Coventry High School (RI) in 1976. I got my first job in radio in August 1978 at WKRI in West Warwick, RI. I also worked at WSAR in Fall River, MA and WNRI in Woonsocket, RI before joining WINY in 1981 at age 19. After a year on the afternoon show, I was moved to mornings and have been the morning show host since 1982. My original plan was to lead the “radio Nomad” life with a dream of ending up at 93KHJ in Los Angeles.

Two things happened: I met and fell in love with Karen and I fell in love with Northeastern Connecticut. I decided to throw my anchor down here and grow some roots. Soon, my goal was to own WINY before age 40. On May 31, 2001 (our 14th wedding anniversary), we closed on the purchase of WINY, 5 months before my 40th birthday. It is an honor to be only the 4th owner of this historic property.

WINY is a local institution, known by everyone and listened to by generations of loyal listeners. It’s fun to meet parents with young children who grew up listening to me, and now their kids start their day with the morning show. We are blessed with a truly dedicated staff and I enjoy working with each and every person at WINY. Our goal is to keep it local, relevant, and fun.
