Shaina Alston entertains residents at Christopher Heights Assisted Living
Good morning Northeastern Connecticut and those listening online! I'm the crazy girl that makes fun of Gary O's mustache, has three turtles, a gecko, and a bunny.
I've lived in this area most of my life. I went to Killingly High School where I was actively involved in theatre, soccer, indoor track, ecology club, peer mediators, and the school newspaper. After graduating in 2002, I enrolled in Quinebaug Valley Community College where I obtained my Associate's Degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences.
From 2004 to 2006, I attended Southern Connecticut State University where I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Jounalism. One of my requirements in my major was to intern somewhere relating to the media. I knew immediately I wanted to intern at WINY. And that's where it all started!
I made coffee, would greet guests, gave prizes away and read horoscopes. The more time I spent at the station, the more I realized this is where I belonged. I worked every other day the last semester of college and in the process became the future full-time morning reporter and News Director.
Aside from my WINY family, I have two younger sisters, Nelle and Bri, whom I love very much. Nelle and I play acoustic/electric guitars and sing at various venues in the area. We will be starting our own side business for weddings, engagements, showers, etc. My parents have been the solid foundation beneath my bare feet; pushing me just enough for me to realize how much further I want to go in life.
Some of my hobbies include playing guitar, singing, writing, traveling, taking pictures, caring for my animals, playing video games, reading, and spending time with my sisters and friends.
To my WINY family, my immediate family, and supportive friends who have put up with my stubborn and crazy personality.....THANK YOU.
