Jason Bleau, Saturday Morning News Anchor/Reporter
Jason has been a music man most of his life.
Growing up on classic rock, southern rock and country music, Jason earned a respect for music and radio in middle school. While everyone would go out to the movies and take a walk around town, Jason would stay home watching music videos, listening to the radio and exploring the underlying aspects of music.
Jason was part of the Thompson school system before enrolling in Killingly High School’s Vocational Agricultural program where he became an active member of the FFA and the school’s drama department. After entering high school Jason’s interests in music and radio grew to the next level when he was presented with his first guitar from his Grandfather. He made his first official stage appearance his junior year in Killingly High School’s Annual Pop’s Night show and was overwhelmed by the reaction he received from his peers and school staff. Jason has also been active in many singing contests and open mic nights across Eastern Connecticut, placing in the top 5 in many competitions before finally winning his first contest in 2010 and becoming a regular performer at Hank’s Dairy Bar in Plainfield.
During his senior year, Jason made his first appearance on radio on the WINY Morning Show with Gary “O” during a one day job shadow. It was this experience that inspired Jason to consider radio as a viable future. After two semesters of college exploring the sciences, Jason finally enrolled in Eastern Connecticut State University’s communications program where he would become a regular writer and assistant news editor for the college newspaper, The Campus Latern, and become a regular DJ and Operations Manager for the school’s radio station WECS. Jason graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Communications in 2011 specializing in radio and journalism.
Jason joined WINY in mid-2011 as a news reporter and has graduated to Saturday Morning News Anchor as well. He enjoys being a part of the WINY staff and is always looking for an opportunity to push himself and learn more about the industry.
Off the air Jason is an avid NASCAR fan. He also enjoys listening to the music he grew up with as well as contemporary country, rock and pop music for some spice. He also enjoys attending live music concerts, being a part of the local music and racing scene, and enjoying some time off with his family and friends.
“I am very grateful to the staff at WINY and their loyal listeners for welcoming me into the family fresh out of college and allowing me to get involved in what I enjoy doing so much. I am thankful for the support my family and friends have given me and look forward to what the future has in store.”
